Planning underway for Generation Barents 2026

The year started with a BRYC Board meeting in Oulu, where members gathered to begin preparations for the council’s annual youth event, Generation Barents. During the meeting, BRYC initiated planning for Generation Barents 2026, which will bring together young people, policymakers, and regional stakeholders to discuss the future of the Barents Region.

While in Oulu, BRYC representatives also met with partners who will contribute to the organisation of the event. Representatives from the City of Oulu confirmed their willingness to host the event in municipal premises. In addition, representatives from the Regional Council of Oulu expressed their support as co-hosts of the event together with BRYC. The Oulu Youth Council will also be involved and is expected to contribute with cultural elements during the programme.

“Generation Barents is an important arena where young people from across the region can meet, exchange ideas and discuss the future of the Barents Region together with decision-makers,” said representatives from BRYC following the meeting.

Youth voices at Arctic Frontiers

In February, BRYC representatives travelled to Tromsø to participate in Arctic Frontiers, one of the leading arenas for dialogue on Arctic policy and development.

During the conference, BRYC members participated in two panel discussions focusing on youth participation and the role of young people in shaping the future of Arctic communities. The panels highlighted the importance of including youth perspectives in discussions on regional development, sustainability, and employment opportunities in the High North.

“Young people are not only the future of the Arctic – we are already active contributors today. Platforms like Arctic Frontiers give us the opportunity to bring youth perspectives directly into important policy discussions,” a BRYC representative noted.

Preparing for the BRYC Annual Meeting 2026

BRYC is currently preparing for its Annual Meeting 2026, which will bring together council members from across the Barents Region to review ongoing activities and set priorities for the year ahead.

Through its continued engagement in regional cooperation and international policy arenas, BRYC remains an important platform for youth dialogue and participation in the Barents cooperation framework. The council’s activities in early 2026 demonstrate a strong commitment to strengthening cross-border youth collaboration and ensuring that young voices remain part of discussions shaping the future of the Barents Region.
