The Barents Financial Mechanism (BFM) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Open Call for Grants, offering funding to support cross-border projects across the Barents Region.

This call supports projects that bring together partners from the Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) members — Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and the European Union — with a focus on sustainable cross-border cooperation.

Why Apply?

BFM-funded projects can bring together partners from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and the EU, fostering international cooperation in the Barents Region.

We support projects that:

  • Strengthen cooperation among actors from the Barents Euro-Arctic Councils members.
  • Promote sustainable development.
  • Strive to enhance inclusion, equality, and resilience of the Youth, and Indigenous communities.
  • Are relevant to the work of the Barents Cooperation Working Groups.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must be legal entities, including:

  • National, regional, or local public authorities.
  • Educational and research institutions.
  • Associations, NGOs, and non-profit organizations.

Barents Working Groups and the Barents Regional Youth Council (BRYC) are also eligible when represented by a legal entity serving as lead partner/applicant.

Funding Available

  • Total funding: NOK 1.5 million.

  • Maximum grant per project: NOK 400.000.

  • Co-funding requirement: Minimum 10% (cash or in-kind).

  • Project duration: Projects must take place during 2026.

Application Deadline

All applications must be submitted by 15 February 2026 using the official application form and budget template.

Final Report

The final report and financial accounting must be submitted by 1 December.

  • Projects below NOK 100,000 do not require a financial audit.
  • Projects above NOK 100,000 require a financial audit.
